Yeide Kuti: I am not going to leave Seun Kuti even if he cheats

Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti and his wife Yeide, a chef and dancer, have said cheating is not a deal breaker in their marriage.

The couple recently appeared on a TVC show, where they opened up about their relationship, their love story, and their stance on cheating in marriage.

They have been together for over a decade and have a daughter named Adara.

The hosts of the show asked them what their deal breakers were, and if they would leave each other if either of them cheated.

To the surprise of many viewers, both Seun and Yeide said they would not leave each other, even if either of them cheats. They explained that they do not believe in cheating, and that love is not ownership.

“I don’t think there is anything my husband is going to do that would make me leave him. Even if he cheats on me, I won’t leave him. I am not going to leave my husband because he cheated on me. Nah, that can’t happen,” Yeide said.

Seun added, “We don’t believe in cheating. What is cheating? Love is not ownership. Would I leave her if she cheats on me? No. What has that got to do with anything?”

The host then asked Seun to explain his view on cheating, and he said, “Let me tell you something. African men knew this 300, 400 years ago that only your sister’s children inherit from you because they are the only ones you are sure are your blood. The head to the king is his sister’s child, not his own children.”
When asked why, he said, “Because he is not sure if the child is for him.”

Seun and Yeide also shared how they met and how their relationship started.

Yeide said she had known Seun for a long time, but they never talked because he was older than her.

She later met him again through his cousin and started working with him as a dancer. She said she tried to play hard to get, because Seun had a girlfriend at the time, and she was also seeing someone he knew.

Seun, however, didn’t know she was seeing someone but just knew she was playing hard to get. He said he eventually won her over with his charm and persistence.

The couple got legally married in 2020, after having a child together and living with each other for years.
