Lagos Police detain singer Portable over unpaid G-wagon instalments

The Lagos State Police has detained Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as”Portable” over unpaid instalments for a G-Wagon.

Police arrested Portable on Tuesday after he failed to pay the remaining ₦14 million balance on a ₦27 million vehicle. He initially paid ₦13 million but the car dealer, unable to recover the balance despite multiple attempts, finally involved the police.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest. He stated that Portable refused to pay the outstanding amount, claiming the car was faulty.

The arrest video subsequently went viral on social media. It showed Portable attempting to escape and getting arrested by jumping over a gate.

Funke Akindele announces production of new film project

Film star Funke Akindele, who did not win any nominations at the recently concluded African Magic Viewers Choice Awards, has announced a new film project on social media.

She also shared a snippet of the new film, Finding Me, featuring Femi Adebayo, Joseph Benjamin, and a host of other selected actors yet to be announced.

Funke Akindele who recently lost all nominations for her blockbuster film, A Tribe Called Judah, seems undisturbed. Rather, her focus is on making sure her new project is a success.

Afrobeat sensation Burna Boy bagged two nominations alongside Drake, who experienced a tumultuous month. The two artists received BET Awards nominations for both best male R&B/pop artist and best male hip-hop artist.

Drake has had a difficult month, engaging in an increasingly personal diss battle with Kendrick Lamar which seemingly ended in his defeat.

Thankfully, his nominations to the award show have brought him some good news. BET also announced the first artists confirmed to perform on the show. Some of them include GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, and Victoria Monét.

Released on May 15, 2004, the album catapulted TuFace, now known as 2Baba, into stardom, making him a pioneer of contemporary African music.

Face 2 Face was not just an album, it was a cultural reset that served as a blueprint for Afrobeat’s global journey in the future. It is, till today, a body of work that captured the hearts of millions of Nigerians.

The album bridged the gap between traditional Nigerian sounds and the emerging global Afrobeats movement. It featured hits like African Queen, Nfana Ibaga, and Right Here, which became anthems across the African continent and beyond.
