Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has denied entering any agreement with the Presidency prior to the January 12, 2024 Supreme Court judgment on the state’s governorship election petition appeal, where he emerged victorious.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, in a statement, described a document circulating on social media indicating a four-term agreement between the governor and the presidency as an imaginary piece, devoid of any iota of truth.

He stated: “The agreement purporting that Yusuf accepted to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), jettison the plan to dissolve the five emirates, discontinue demolition of illegal structures and establish Kano Elders Council (KEC) should be disregarded.

“The governor would like to make it abundantly clear that having secured his mandate through popular votes of the good people of Kano, and certified by a fair affirmation of the Supreme Court, he would not be intimidated by any political opportunist.”

He reminded political jobbers hiding under the leniency of the President that whatever political decision or direction that would be taken in Kano would be determined within the confines of the rule of law and executive powers vested in the office of the Governor.

Debunking the rumour, he stated that no amount of blackmail would distract Yusuf from delivering his laudable projects and programmes for the good people of Kano.

The statement reads: “Also worthy of note, the establishment of KEC is a personal initiative of the governor, aimed at finding lasting solutions to all solvable problems affecting the state’s socio-economic and political development. Hence, the governor was not under pressure to form the council. So, he did not enter any agreement with anybody before the Supreme Court judgment. I, therefore, urge the public to dismiss the fallacy being orchestrated by enemies of progress.

“It is on record that the Justices of the Supreme Court (JSCs) delivered a landmark judgment with justice, equity and fairness and largely protected the integrity of the judiciary.”

Meanwhile, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain, BubaGaladima, has accused the National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, of ridiculing President Bola Tinubu.

Galadima said the manner in whichGanduje announced the defection of NNPP presidential candidate in 2023, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the APC ridiculed Tinubu.

The NNPP stalwart was reacting to Ganduje’s remark that he would be Kwankwaso’s grandfather if the presidential candidate defects to the APC.
This was coming on the heels of reports that Tinubu was planning to reconcile Ganduje and Kwankwaso, and possibly pull the latter back to APC.

However, Galadima said Ganduje never wanted to reconcile with Kwankwaso, despite the President’s alleged intention.

Speaking on Arise TV, yesterday, Galadima said: “Ganduje is wise by half; he ridiculed the President by going to the press on Kwankwaso joining the APC. Even if that is what the President told him to do, he knows the best way to go about it.

“Ganduje never wanted to reconcile with Kwankwaso and never wanted him to join the APC; he is just fooling the President to scare Kwankwaso. The reconciliation of Ganduje and Kwankwaso will be in the interest of the state because it will allow the governor to do his work.”
