Yusuf seeks extension of agro-pastoral project in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has requested an extension of the duration of the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) project within the state to broaden the scope of beneficiaries and enhance the economic sustainability of the North West.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, yesterday, the plea was made during a dinner at Government House, Kano, where he entertained representatives of donor organisations supporting the project.

Yusuf stressed that Kano, as the most populous state in the North, needs the aid of such organisations to empower the burgeoning population of unemployed young men and women, as well as assist the most marginalised individuals in improving their quality of life.

He used the opportunity to elaborate on the achievements of his administration in less than one year, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, agriculture, empowerment, and a series of relief measures to support the underprivileged in society.

Expressing appreciation to the donor organisations, the governor stated: “On behalf of the government and the esteemed citizens of Kano, I convey our heartfelt gratitude to you for supporting such a noble initiative that has positively impacted the lives of over one million residents of Kano. Through your endeavours, you have significantly increased the daily income of numerous households in Kano over the years, contributing to the socioeconomic advancement of the state.

“I seize this opportunity to request an extension of the project, with the firm assurance that your contributions are in reliable hands, as the Kano government is dedicated to the prudent management of every aspect of the project.”

Earlier, the donor team leader, Adil Alsharif, had elucidated that the primary objective of the donor delegation’s visit was to observe the LLF-funded project in action, supporting small-scale farmers, pastoralists and prominent agricultural associations in Kano.

He emphasised that the visit would enhance awareness and visibility of the fund and its benefactors, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for their collective efforts in driving positive changes within the community.

Alsharif, on behalf of the donor organisations, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and the prudent utilisation of funds allocated for the initiative, while also seeking continuous support for the programme.
