Yusuf tasks security agencies on stopping threats to public peace

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has challenged security agencies to probe the root cause of the security threat in Nigeria to nip the threat in the bud.

Besides, Yusuf wants security agencies to be proactive enough in mitigating symptoms of security threats before escalating and becoming a huge monster.

The Governor gave the advise Thursday at the opening of 14h Quarterly Conference of the State Directors of Security (SDSes), Northwest zone held in Kano.

Although Yusuf opined that the convergence of the heads of DSS in the zone will enable credible and cross-fersatile of ideas and knowledge, the Governor believed the intelligence gathering must cut across information sharing from the stakeholders.


Yusuf said the conference is coming at a period when the security architecture of the country was being threatened by terrorists and other criminal elements, especially in the North, and added that collaboration and synergy among security agencies be come pertinent to tackle the challenges.

According to him, “I challenge you to use intelligence data gathering to locate the whereabouts of those perpetrating the crimes, are they Politicians, Traditional Leaders, Religious or Business Community, do more to unravel those sponsoring and conducting attacks on innocent lives for the Country to be peaceful”.

Earlier, the convener, and State Director, DSS, Kano state, Alhassan Muhammad explained that the annual conference was designed to compare notes, review emerging threat and strategy to unravel the threat.


Speaking in the instance of the Director General State Services (DGSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the State director noted that with the evolving world of security concerns, management of Intelligence and security is fast becoming a complex and multifaceted phenomenon.

The DSS boss stressed that with emerging threat like cyber-security threat, physical security challenges, terrorism, armed banditry, farmers/herders’ clashes, environmental tensions, intra/inter political party disputes, intelligent managers are leaving no stone unturned to nip the threat in the bud.


“The security landscape is constantly evolving, presenting new and unprecedented challenges to security agencies, the executive, legislators, judiciary and societies across the country. Thus, this conference has curated a comprehensive program that features thought-provoking keynote presentations, interactive discussions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among SDSes from various States.”

The DSS Director, explained that the conference will witness robust sharing of operational ideas, peer review of existing security containment measures, as well review of tactical and strategic Security operations and make recommendations to the higher authorities.
