Zamfara governor reaffirms collaboration with security agencies to combat insecurity

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to partnering with security agencies and the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) to address the insecurity challenges facing the state. Governor Lawal shared this during a meeting with participants of the NISS Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 17/2024 and faculty officials at the Government House.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was noted that the theme of the course is “Artificial Intelligence, Security and Emerging Economies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects,” and that participants come from various agencies across Nigeria and beyond.

Governor Lawal commended NISS for choosing Zamfara for a study tour and emphasized the importance of understanding the critical issues surrounding security in the region. He highlighted that the state is rich in natural and human resources, offering a wide range of economic opportunities that could be further enhanced through the effective use of technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

“Like other parts of Nigeria, our state is endowed with abundant natural and human resources, which could be a catalyst for economic progress. The application of AI and other innovative technologies could maximize the benefits from these resources and help address the security challenges we face,” he said.

The Governor pointed out that his administration has taken various steps to improve security, including regular state security council meetings, establishing the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund, and implementing restrictions on activities that contribute to insecurity. He also mentioned the creation of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (ZSCPG) to support conventional law enforcement agencies.

Governor Lawal urged the course participants to critically assess the current security landscape and offer practical recommendations to help the state government improve its security measures.

Earlier, the delegation’s team leader, Madam Patricia Edak, praised Governor Lawal for his achievements in a relatively short period of time. “Your Excellency, we have toured the state and witnessed the significant transformation you have brought about in a short period of your tenure. Zamfara State is fortunate to have you as their Governor,” she remarked.
