Zulum inaugurates 565,000-litre water project in Azare

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has commissioned the 565,000-litre mega water supply project in Azare, Hawul Local Council.


According to him, the Borno South Senatorial District water project is serving over a dozen communities along the Biu-Gombi road.

Inaugurating the solar-powered water project, on Sunday, Zulum disclosed: “Today’s event will address the lingering water scarcity for domestic and industrial uses at the council headquarters, as well as adjourning 15 communities.

“It is my singular honour and privilege to commission this mega water works today, to the glory of God,” adding that it would serve humanity, including the farming herding communities.


While briefing the governor on the completed project, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Tijjani Alkali, said “the water project discharges 10 litres of water per second” to homes and business premises.

The commissioner added: “The water facility comprises over six basement solar-powered boreholes with a depth of about 100 metres.”

Alkali said: “The Azare water project is powered by 22,00KV solar power and equipped with 10Hp booster water pumps. It has five kilometres of reticulation network system with various types of batteries of water taps.”

According to him, the water project brings to five similar projects sited in Ngarannam, Moramti, Pulka and Chibok communities.
