Zulum sacks health commissioner

Babagana Zulum
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has sacked the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Salihu Kwayabura, with immediate effect.

Kwayabura was secretary of the state’s high-powered committee on prevention and spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that claimed 36 lives in the state.

In a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Relations and Strategy, Isa Gusau, disclosed that the sack was part of measures to reposition the Ministry of Health’s fight against COVID-19.

He said the governor also directed his Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte, to oversee the health ministry, pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.

“Zulum has expressed gratitude to Dr. Kwayabura for his immense contributions to the development in Borno’s public health sector for about two years.

“The former commissioner also served under the Kashim Shettima administration,” he stated.

Marte is a professor of Pharmacology and a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Specialty in Cancer Research.
