BOCCIMA commends gov, military for reopening major roads

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has ordered the building of barracks for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Gambouru/Ngala of Borno State.

The two insurgency-affected communities border Cameroon. Special Adviser to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, Isa Gusau, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri that Zulum gave the directives in Gambouru while distributing relief materials and N216.32 million to internally-displaced women.

He lamented that the police and immigration barracks torched by the insurgents were beyond repair. Besides the new barracks, he also ordered the reconstruction of some buildings at the Nigerian Arabic Village and a shopping complex to enhance trade in the border communities.

Zulum, therefore, directed the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (MRRR) to commence the construction of new barracks for the two security services.

According to him, the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) is to construct a new shopping complex in the town.

“The BOGIS’s Executive Secretary, Adam Bababe, is to submit a budget to me for the Gambouru shopping complex project,” he said, stating that the project will be completed this year.

MEANWHILE, the Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BOCCIMA) has commended the military and Governor Zulum for reopening two major roads in the state. The reopened roads include Maiduguri–Bama–Banki and the Maiduguri–Dikwa–Gambouru linking Cameroun, Chad and Niger.

Director-General of BOCCIMA, Abdullahi Usman, disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri, that the reopening would quicken the resumption of commercial activities in the areas. According to him, it is a good development for the state government and various border communities.

Lamenting that most BOCCIMA members lost their major sources of livelihood in the insurgency that claimed many lives, he said “the reopening of roads over insecurity has become the backbone of the state’s business and farming communities.” Usman noted the Maiduguri–Gambouru road as the famous Trans-Sahara trade route to North African countries.
