The Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Lagos House of Assembly, Oluyinka Ogundimu has attributed the over N100 billion recently realised by the state government as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the accounting and financial ingenuity of the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to block financial leakages and not as a result of multiple taxation as alleged in some quarters.

The chairman who stated in chat with journalists at the Assembly complex noted that the truth that Governor Ambode is a seasoned accountant, had played a huge role in the impressive IGR figures recorded so far.

“The Governor has blocked many leakages and has been able to discover many others coupled with an effective supervision by the Lagos State House of Assembly; all these have helped the system. It is actually a function of many factors put together. You could see that many of the roads in the state cannot last because of pressure, we need a lot of money to fix all these,” he said.

Throwing more light into how the over N100 billion was realised, he said it was not due to double taxation and that by the high level of awareness among business operators and residents in the state,, it was not possible to cheat people in matters relating to taxes anymore, and that the people could no longer been taken for granted.
