Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of an illegal firearm in Ozoro, described by authorities as another operational breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime in the state.

The Command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest to The Guardian on Thursday, saying operatives attached to the Ozoro Division apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Friday Oghenemaro, on February 9, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m.

According to Edafe, the arrest was carried out during a proactive township patrol along Hospital Road, Ozoro, in Isoko North Local Government Area.

He said a search of the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol from Oghenemaro, who was arrested on the fateful day, while two other suspects are currently at large.

He disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate he is a member of the Aye confraternity, a cult group linked to various violent crimes in the region.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to possessing the firearm since his secondary school days, citing his involvement in the cult group as the reason for carrying the weapon.

The Police image maker said investigations are ongoing to identify his accomplices and to unravel possible links to armed robbery, cult violence, and other criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that proactive patrols and intelligence-led operations remain critical to curbing crime.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intensifying visibility policing, targeted patrols, and intelligence-driven operations to deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate within Delta State.
