Economy in focus as Osinbajo, governors meet

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will tomorrow play host to governors of the 36 States of the Federation for the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will tomorrow play host to governors of the 36 States of the Federation for the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Thursday’s meeting which is the first in the year is expected to specifically discuss a number of measures adopted by the Government to pull the country out of recession.

Recall that the presidency this week announced that Nigeria was already getting out of recession following successes recorded in different sectors.

It was learnt that NEC will also review the current status of the Excess Crude Account (ECA) and consider other revenue sources that will assist state government to clear outstanding salaries owed their workers.

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Chief Audu Ogbe is also expected to brief the council on the progress ‎made so far by the presidential Task Force recently constituted by the acting President to check rising food prices across the country.

Thursday’s NEC will be presided over by the Acting President who is presently holding forth for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Specifically, President Buhari is on a medical vacation in London, United Kingdom (UK).‎

Other members of NEC are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF) and other top government functionary.
