ECWA hospital disowns employee over alleged child trafficking

The medical director of ECWA Eye Hospital, Kano State, Dr. Atima Mayor, has distanced the hospital from one of its workers, Mrs. Itohan Pius, accused of engaging in child trafficking.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the director of the Christian missionary clinic insisted that the buying and selling of human parts, which Itohan was accused of, was criminal under the extant laws and she must face the consequence.

“Since the case is pending before the law enforcement institutions, we believe she would face the full wrath of the law while the hospital is considering her sanctions based on the staff rules of ethics, for dragging the name of the hospital, which was founded on Christian ethics, into disrepute.”

Itohan Pius was recently paraded by the police command in Kano for her involvement in an alleged child trafficking incident after a failed attempt to buy one Fatima through her mother.

The police spokesperson, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said Itohan was arrested after Fatima’s mother quickly alerted the police that the suspect approached her to buy her daughter for N15,000.
