Enugu herdsmen attack: Another victim dies
Tempers flared in Enugu, yesterday, over the death of Mrs Ifeoma Agbo, one of the victims of Thursday’s attack by herdsmen at Ndiagu Attakwu community, Nkanu West council.
She died yesterday morning at the Mother of Christ Specialist hospital, Ogui, where doctors had battled since the attack to save her, bringing to two, the number that lost their lives in the incident.
A seminarian, Lazarus Nwafor had died on the day of the attack from machete cuts he received from the herdsmen, who invaded the family compound at about 2.00 am on Thursday morning.
Madam Ifeoma sustained severe injuries in the early morning attack that left her son, Ifeanyi, his seven months old pregnant wife, Ngozi and their sister Amuche in critical condition. Her stomach was ripped open, even as the marauding herdsmen dealt other dangerous objects on her.
Doctors had earlier on Thursday confirmed that her son, Ifeanyi suffered hearing loss from the attack. Ifeanyi, since the attack would only communicate by writing.
Speaking from his sick bed yesterday, Ifeanyi, who had not been informed of the exit of his mother, told The Guardian that he was still shocked as to why the herdsmen singled out his family for attack, stressing that he had no problems with them.
“I don’t know what we did. They invaded us in the night through the ceiling of the building and began to attack us with whatever was in their hands. It was a surprise development and I am still wondering what could have been responsible,” he said.
