The Federal Government has decried what it tagged inefficient performance of the 11 power distribution companies (DisCos) as reflected in their failure to deliver electricity to end-users and to properly account for revenue generated.

A statement by the General Manager (Operations), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), E. A. Eje, said the DisCos are owing N121.8 billion for payment of electricity delivered to them for distribution and other services rendered to enhance their performance.

According to the statement released at the just concluded 15th power sector stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, Plateau State, the Federal Government said that it has consistently delivered incremental energy generated by the generating companies (GenCos) to the DisCos on monthly basis

The statement further gave summary of indebtedness of the DisCos in respect of electricity wheeled to them for distribution and failure to remit revenue generated.

This showed that as at February 2017, the DisCos have outstanding shortfall of remittance of N115, 575,002,224.33. This amount was supposed to be paid to service providers like the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), among others.

In a related development, youths in Ondo State under the auspices of Akoko Concerned Youths (ACY) have decried the constant outage in four local councils in the area.

The Coordinator of the group, Mr. Adedotun Olomolatan, in conjunction with National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) addressed a press conference in Akure yesterday where they accused leaders in the area of negligence.

The affected areas are Akoko North West, Akoko North East, Akoko South West and Akoko South East councils in the North Senatorial District of the state.
