Abia State governor’s wife, Nkechi Ikpeazu, has condemned the deteriorating state of value systems and moral compasses, which previously guaranteed stable and harmonious society.

Abia State governor’s wife, Nkechi Ikpeazu, has condemned the deteriorating state of value systems and moral compasses, which previously guaranteed stable and harmonious society.She, therefore, called for a declaration of state of emergency on the phenomenon, yesterday, at the special orientation programme for the girl-child in Umuahia.

Mrs. Ikpeazu urged parents to take grooming of their children seriously, as they are the ones to take over from them in the future.She tasked council chairmen, church leaders and non-governmental organisation (NGOs) to duplicate the programme in their areas.

In a related development, the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, while receiving a delegation of a coalition of women and women’s group, led by his wife on advocacy visit to Government House, yesterday, lauded their resolve to champion protection of the rights of women and children, especially the girl-child.

Mrs. Ikpeazu told the governor that their visit was “part of their systematic effort at receiving commitment from stakeholders towards the elimination of girl-child right abuses.”The governor, who pledged assent to all progressive legislations targeted towards protecting rights of women and the girl-child, urged parents to vigilantly monitor their children’s activities to prevent abuses.
