The residents of Igbogbo community of Ikorodu, Lagos State were in the early hours of yesterday thrown into mourning as gunmen shot and killed all six members of a family.Among the persons killed by the assassins were a three-month-old baby and a three-year-old child.

The victims were identified as Celestine Nwokoye, a taxi driver at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, his wife, his three-year old son, his eight-month old baby and two daughters.

A resident, John Udah said Nwokoye family members were shot one after another by gunmen at their residence where a church was located.According to Udah, “it happened in the early hours. We heard gunshots but nobody knew what was happening and nobody could come out at that unholy hour.

“It was after the killers had gone and we rushed to the house that we knew the enormity of what had happened. By the time we got there, the father and the two children were already dead.

“The mother and the fifth person were still breathing when we got there. We rushed them to the Ikorodu General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“We can’t say who committed the extermination of a family, but I don’t think the killers were armed robbers. I suspect they were assassinated.”
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, said that the police have a clue on the killings.
