Minister urges FIIRO to commercialise research findings

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday commissioned an exhibition dome at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Oshodi, Lagos, to enhanced the activities of the institute.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday commissioned an exhibition dome at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Oshodi, Lagos, to enhanced the activities of the institute.

While commissioning the dome, Onu said importance of the centre couldn’t be overemphasised, as through it the nation would be informed about the various technologies available for national development.

Onu stated that the exhibition centre would contribute to attracting youths to the field of science and technology.The minister urge FIIRO to commercialise her technology products, even as he stated that his ministry was interested in having strong relationship between research and technology market.

“We must have strong relationship between research and the market place, and we want to see many research findings in FIIRO commercialised, so that they will be made available as products and services to Nigerians in the market place. It is only when that is done that we can create jobs and grow the economy.

“ Evidently with FIIRO, there are many research findings that are worthy to be in the market to help us so that Nigeria will no longer be a consumer nation,” Onu said.The minister stated that FIIRO work is very important to the development of agriculture in Nigeria.
