PDP accuses Kogi governor of wasting state funds

• He is deploying resources judiciously, says aide
• El-Rufai urges APC to perform
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of wasting the state funds on frivolities.

A statement by its Publicity Secretary, Bode Ogunmola alleged that the residents were dissatisfied with lies, which do not show any economic growth in the state.

The party also accused Bello of compromising laid down rules and procedures in carrying out government business.

He said: “The PDP in Kogi State has watched with dismay the ongoing emasculation of the socio-economic development under the Yahaya Bello-led administration. It is disheartening that he is spending the state funds on frivolities with reckless abandon.

“Despite the huge resources that the state had expended on hiring a crowd, the programme was a total failure, reflecting the people’s displeasure with his style of administration.”

The PDP condemned the recent political rally in Okene, where over 10,000 PDP members reportedly defected to the ruling All progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mrs. Petra Akinti Oyegbulem said Bello was deploying the state resources to build roads and provide amenities for the people.

“He is remodeling our tertiary institutions and the people are seeing the difference that we promised them. The PDP should embark on rebranding, since they destroyed the country and will never be trusted with power again,” she said.

She stressed that contrary to the PDP’s claim, over 85, 000 people defected to the APC and were received by over 30, 000 party chieftains.

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has tasked the APC government to perform creditably to avoid disappointing the electorate.

He made the appeal yesterday in his keynote address to the Stakeholders Conference on Public Service Delivery, at Arewa House, Kaduna.

The governor cautioned that politics should not interfere with service delivery to the people.

He said: “There is no gainsaying that performance is directly related to capability and capacity, that is why there should be continuous self assessment of the system, structure, and staffing.

“We must understand the challenges affecting performance, strength, and weaknesses and also identify areas for improvement. This government has no choice but to visibly perform.

“This Federal Government was credibly elected by people of this country in 2015, and has continued to enjoy unwavering support and solidarity all the way.
Having given so much, the people have the right to legitimate expectation.”

El-Rufai said unless the party finds a sustained way of building government’s capability and capacity for improving service delivery in all facets of public life, “I’m afraid it would leave our people who elected us to be frustrated and unfulfilled.”
