In line with one of the focus areas of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1, District 9110, has started the new year with a club visit to an orphanage, Vigilant Heart Charitable Society (VHCS), to spend some time with the less privileged children.

Members of the club, led by the Assistant Governor District, Kayode Adenirokun, visited VHCS located at Igbo Efon, Lekki-Epe area of Lagos State with many gift items, which included foodstuff and toiletries.

Founder of VHCS, Maria Iriowen Osawemen, received the club members, which comprised of the president, Chijioke Omile, incoming president, Dimeji Ajayi , Project Director, Uzor Anijah-Obi, and other members and friends of the club.

She appreciated the club’s gesture, goodwill and deeds, while thanking them for choosing to sow the seed of love in the lives of the less privileged children of the orphanage and for giving them hope.

“We have had over 50 children under our care in this orphanage and we have also adopted 20 more children we picked from the streets,” she said, encouraging the club to help spread the message about the orphanage as it does not receive any support from the state government, but depend rather on kind-hearted Nigerians and associations.

The president, Omile promised that the club would partner with the orphanage this year while doing its charity activities.
