The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is partnering Cross River State government to formulate rules on operations of family court in the state.

The rules, which are at draft stage, are expected to prioritise investment in strengthening the system for child protection and development, particularly in equipping family courts and establishing correctional institutions for juveniles in accordance to the state’s Child Rights Law.

The Chief of UNICEF’s Enugu Field Office, Dr. Ibrahim Conte, charged the state to take child rights and protection seriously, considering the threats and dangers children are daily exposed to.

Conte, who said this in Calabar at a Stakeholders’ Consultation on Development of Family Court Rules for Cross River State, emphasised the need for the state to partner UNICEF on child rights protection and ensure that proper rules and infrastructure are put in place.
