World Stroke Day holds
Stroke Action Nigeria is partnering with World Stroke Organization and Ashoka Foundation to drive stroke awareness and prevention in Nigeria. CEO of the group, Rita Melifonwu, said stroke is the leading cause of death and disability globally. “Every two seconds, it attacks someone in the world regardless of age.
Stroke prevalence in Nigeria is estimated at 1.14 per 1,000 of the population, that is 205,200 strokes each year. Unfortunately, many do not receive proper care.”
She added that stroke is preventable and treatable, a message they will promote on the World Stroke Day holding on Sunday, October 29. The theme for this year is Prevention.
