The Tiv Youth Council (TYC) has accused politicians of sponsoring the killings in the land for political gains.

Decrying the massacres, the youths said they strongly suspect that the killers were being sponsored by the political class.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, TYC’s president, Mike Msuaan, appealed to the political elite to desist from politicising the nation’s prevailing insecurity and approach the matter with sincerity of purpose in order to end the mindless killings.

He advised religious bodies and faithful against hate preachments, noting that such were capable of stirring war in the country.

Msuaan urged government at all levels to be proactive on issues relating to protection of lives and property of Nigerians. He equally challenged those in positions of leadership to work out a coordinated approach towards ending the pogrom once and for all.

Regretting that youths were always at the receiving end of the cruel deeds of selfish politicians, the group vowed that this important segment of the society would henceforth mobilise and work with the security agencies to fish out killers and their sponsors nationwide.

Msuaan said: “This pattern of political power play is very dangerous to our growth as a nation and we, the youths, are at the receiving end of such action because it has created a dark cloud over our future. We have resolved never to allow this continue. It is high time our politicians knew that we can no longer sit and allow them push us to doom.

“It is we, the children of the commoners that are being used to unleash such political plan while the children of these gladiators are either in the comfort of their highly secured home in Nigeria or abroad.”

He continued: We will henceforth mobilise and work hand in hand with the security agencies to unravel this mystery. Whoever is found to be sponsoring carnage or have a hand soiled with blood will face our wrath.”
