Tambuwal gets ‘ultimatum’ to decide on Buhari’s second term
ERSTWHILE members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Sokoto State have challenged the governor, Aminu Tambuwal, to declare his stand on President Buhari’s re-election within 48 hours.
The members, under the aegis of APC Adalci Buhari Sak (Buhari Support Group), who had recently complained of being marginalised by the APC administration in the state, maintained that an unequivocal declaration had become necessary to clear doubts on his loyalty.
BSG chairman, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Bashar, told journalists that based on the “unconditional support of the group to President Buhari’s second term bid, as patriots and committed party faithful, we strongly oppose and distance our group from any move by the existing party structure in Sokoto State to truncate and thwart President Buhari’s 2019 ambition through subterfuge and political horse-trading akin to the 2015 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rupture.”
Bashar said: “Let Aminu Waziri declare his stand, so that we will know where he stands. If necessary, we will find our way. We will be on our own, pushing the Buhari agenda for 2019.”He accused the governor of anti-party activities by giving appointments to members of the opposition PDP, who were yet to decamp to the APC. He alleged that the governor has been fraternising with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and other PDP governors rather than those of the APC.
He said that the group is willing to embrace amicable settlement because of the Buhari factor, even as he expressed hope that the situation would not get out of control.Bashar noted that the group has already forwarded its petition to the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu reconciliation panel and copied the party chairman.
