Angelique-Monet Gureje an ex-beauty queen, actress, and director now a Nigerian queen, Queen speaks in an interview on how she is adapting to her new life since her marriage last year and being a ventriloquist to the people.
Angelique-Monet Gureje is married to the king of Eti-Oni in Osun state and the Yeyeluwa Olori of Eti-Oni.
When asked about the switch from showbiz life to being the Queen of Eti-Oni she said “Wow. Well, first of all, it’s something that I’m really proud of. Because the first time I stepped foot in Africa, I’m married to a king and I have a longstanding road to go ahead for Eti-Oni, and I’m just really happy to be here. It’s just like a fairy tale that came through.”
When asked how she met her husband, the Queen giggled and said, “That’s a really good question. We’ve known each other for a while, and it was actually a humanitarian project that really brought us together. To me, it’s faith from God. It was an easy adjustment, because I’ve always loved Africa and I’ve always loved Nigeria, and then I learned through the transatlantic slave trade, that even my ways would come from Yoruba traditions. So it’s been a beautiful adjustment. And to be honest, I feel like as long as you’re willing to give to the people it makes your job a lot easier.”
The Queen uses her skill as a ventriloquist to entertain the children of the land as a way to give back.
“I started doing it for humanitarian reasons. When I say humanitarian I mean to make a difference for over a decade now. So I had retired from acting, as well as performing full time. But the ventriloquism is something that I’ve been doing around the world to make people happy because it does. So I got into it because I was actually bullied. Yeah, it was. But , it was the rare art of ventriloquism that my mother told me and guess what the bullies became my friends because Gracie the pig they loved and we became friends after
Even though she is retired from acting and performance the former beauty queen said that she is working on some film projects and animations with his Majesty to tell the history of their kingdom.
