Lagos Aviation and Maritime Business (LAMB) Academy has announced the commencement of five basic seafaring courses aimed at providing cadets with practical sea experience.
The institution’s Rector, Emeka Udowu, made this known at the academy’s 13th convocation and 8th National Diploma matriculation at the weekend.
He added that the academy has also sought accreditation for additional courses, including ship, boat, and building technology, as well as transport and business studies, along with underwater diving technology.
“LAMB Academy’s unveiling of these five essential Seafarers courses is seen as a significant step towards addressing the growing need for well-trained and competent seafarers. With practical sea experience being a vital aspect of a cadet’s training, these courses provide a strong foundation for a successful career in the maritime industry.
“As the demand for skilled seafarers continues to rise, LAMB Academy’s commitment to offering comprehensive and practical training is expected to attract aspiring seafarers looking to embark on a fulfilling career at sea,” he said
Udowu mentioned that the academy has initiated the process of transitioning from an innovation institution to a mono-technic, noting that the change in status will alter the mode of operation and create opportunities for the expansion of courses.
Meanwhile, Udowu expressed the urgent need for additional land for constructing classroom blocks and hostels, completion of unfinished hostels, demand for coaster buses to transport students during vacations, a necessity for a standard swimming pool for practical survival techniques, and ongoing challenges with electricity supply.
“I urge parents to contribute towards the school’s development, and we also appeal to the government to promptly begin the construction of the main road leading to Ije-ododo, the community where the school is situated,” he said
