ALGON boss urges Taraba residents to reconsider planned protest

Agbu Kefas, Taraba State governor.

The Taraba state branch of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), has called on the people of the state, especially those in Jalingo, the state capital, to reconsider the forthcoming protest in light of the significant efforts made by the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the state ALGON chairman, Dr. Aminu Hassan, the association passionately appealed to youths, women, clubs, and associations within the Jalingo council to distance themselves from the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.

Hassan, who also serves as the chairman of Jalingo council, pleaded with the public to acknowledge the development projects initiated by the governor and disregard the protest call.

“I urge you to reconsider this protest in light of the substantial and commendable efforts our governor, His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, has undertaken for the betterment of Taraba State,” Hassan stated.

Highlighting achievements such as free education, introduction of a minimum wage, humanitarian aid, affordable higher education, among others, the need for the people of the council and the state at large to distance themselves from the forthcoming nationwide protest, he believed can no longer be overemphasized.

“I passionately appeal to all youths women, clubes and association within Jalingo local government council regarding the proposed nation wide protest scheduled for August 1st 2024; while the spirit of activism and the desire to voice concerns are commendable, I urge you to reconsider this protest in light of the substantial and commendable efforts our Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas has undertaken for the betterment of our dear state.”

Arguing that the proposed protest, might undermine the governor’s ongoing efforts and paint a picture of disunity at a time when solidarity and support are crucial, the need for the people to embrace dialogue, he believed would go a long way to remedy the wrongs.

“Let us instead come together to engage in constructive dialogue, work collaboratively, and support the continuous progress of our state, because, together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Taraba State.”
