Group to establish skill-based universities in South-East

A non-governmental Organisation, Golden Organisation for Accountability in Leadership and Development (GOLD), focused on national development with Anambra State, has commenced the process of establishing skill-based universities in the South East.

The Convener of the group, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, who spoke at the unveiling of the plan, yesterday, said the initiative is to drive socio-economic development of the South-East geo-political zone through skilled-based science and technical education.

The proposed universities, including Innoson University of Technology and Robotics, Prince Arthur Eze University of Management and Legal Studies, and Alfred Achebe African University of Culture and International Studies, would explore and incorporate the African creative ingenuity, skills and innovation in the automobile industry, among others.

GOLD, comprising people from all walks of life with shared objectives and goals, also vowed to hold the government accountable and promote good governance while mobilising resources towards addressing the leadership problems in the region and Nigeria at large.

Nwosu, who is the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointed out that investment in skill-based education will provide an enabling environment for people with various skill sets to materialise without the benefit of formal education to develop and utilise them in producing what is needed for further export to other countries.

He explained that the universities will equally attract scholars and students across the world, and open opportunities for businesses and individuals to amass wealth through leisure, tourism, research and innovation, among others.
