Mavin Records singer, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has made history as the first Nigerian female artiste to cross one billion views on YouTube.
The 21-year-old music star achieved the milestone over the weekend, overtaking Yemi Alade’s record of 805 million cumulative views on the platform.
The bulk of Ayra’s numbers came from her Grammy-nominated single “Rush”, which has pulled in more than 450 million views alone.
According to YouTube’s analytics, the Bloody Samaritan crooner now joins top Nigerian acts like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, Kizz Daniel, Flavour, Tekno, Ckay, Omah Lay, Fireboy and P-Square, all of whom have surpassed the one billion mark in lifetime views.
Ayra Starr’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric.
Since her breakout in 2021 with her self-titled EP, she has become one of the most streamed African artistes globally.
With this latest record, she not only cements her place in Nigeria’s music history but also opens new doors for women in the industry.
As of press time, Ayra Starr has yet to react publicly to the achievement.
