Nigerian singer, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has become the first African female artiste to surpass five million followers on Spotify.

The milestone, confirmed by The Guardian on Wednesday, places the 23-year-old ahead of her female counterparts in terms of Spotify followers.

Despite the record, the ‘Rush’ crooner still trails Grammy-winning singer, Tems, in total Spotify streams. While Ayra has recorded over 2.7 billion streams across all credits, Tems leads with 3.8 billion.

Ayra Starr’s most streamed song on the platform is “Santa”, which has now exceeded 707 million streams.
Her hit single “Rush” also remains a fan favourite, with over 474 million streams.

The Mavin Records signee rose to prominence in 2021 with her debut album “19 & Dangerous”.

She recently released a single titled “Gimme Dat,” featuring Wizkid, on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
