NERDZFACTORY Company, in partnership with Meta, is pleased to announce the rollout of the 2025 edition of the Safe Online Project, an initiative designed to promote digital literacy and safety across Nigeria and equip Nigerians with the knowledge and skills to stay safe and responsible in today’s digital world.
Now in its third year, the Safe Online Project is designed to promote digital safety among young people, educators, parents, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. This year’s programme, themed “Empowering Communities for a Safer Digital Future,” will be implemented across five states in South-West Nigeria: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti. The project will train 100 youth fellows as digital safety ambassadors, deliver structured digital safety sessions to at least 7,000 students, and reach 2,000 NYSC members through offline advocacy campaigns at orientation camps.
In addition, 500 parents and guardians will be equipped with essential digital literacy skills, while an estimated 5,000 more young people, will be engaged through awareness and advocacy activities, bringing the total direct reach of this year’s programme to over 14,600 individuals.
Head of Policy Programmes, Sub-Saharan Africa at Meta, Phil Oduor, while speaking on the global importance of the initiative, stated: “We are thrilled to partner with NerdzFactory Company in our mission to enhance youth digital literacy and online safety in Nigeria. Our Safe Online Programme, which is part of the My Digital World Programme, is dedicated to empowering young individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Together, we are committed to fostering a secure online environment, equipping NYSC members, and engaging with local stakeholders to enable skills necessary for youth digital wellbeing.”
The Safe Online Project responds to the growing need for digital safety education as more young Nigerians rely on the Internet for learning, social interaction, and entertainment. With rising concerns around cyber bullying, misinformation, identity theft, and online exploitation, the initiative uses structured training, peer-led education, and creative advocacy to promote responsible online behaviour. The project also builds on past successes. In 2024, the programme reached over 11,000 students and hosted a three-day Safe Online Youth Fellowship Bootcamp in Abeokuta, in partnership with the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
Founding Partner at NerdzFactory Company, Ade Olowojoba, said: “At NerdzFactory Company, we believe digital safety is essential for national development. This year’s safe online programme will deepen our impact by empowering even more young Nigerians to become safe and informed digital citizens.”
Through this ongoing collaboration between Meta and NerdzFactory Company, the Safe Online Project continues to create safer digital communities, inspire responsible Internet use, and equip the next generation of Nigerians with the tools to thrive in the digital age.
