Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has listed his top 12 rap songs, delighting many on social media with his old-school taste in hip-hop.
He shared the list early Friday morning in response to a playful request from author Lola Shoneyin, who had urged him to post his top 10 rap songs before the end of the year.
The minister responded with a thread that included twelve tracks instead, along with a light-hearted promise to later share a video explaining his picks.
According to Tuggar, “Ok @lolashoneyin here we go, don’t have to wait till end of the year.”
His post came after a Channels TV interview where he quoted lyrics from Fight the Power by Public Enemy, a clip that quickly gained attention online.
Below is Tuggar’s full list of 12 rap favourites:
1. My Mind Is Playing Tricks on Me – Geto Boys
2. Paid in Full – Eric B. & Rakim
3. Fight the Power – Public Enemy
4. It’s a Shame – Monie Luv

Tuggar added, “Explanation video another time,” with a smiling emoji.
The list has sparked reactions across X, with users applauding the minister’s music sense and calling for other politicians to “drop their playlists too.”
