A police spokesperson has expressed concern over what she described as the rising number of broken homes, blaming a growing tendency among men to remarry instead of resolving marital disputes.
Superintendent Josephine Adeh, the public relations officer of the Federal Capital Territory police command, made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X.
“Lately, I’ve noticed more broken homes, and the new trend for men seems to be rushing into marrying a second wife,” she wrote.
Adeh questioned what she saw as a decline in patience and reconciliation for the sake of children and family stability. “But what happened to sitting down and working things out for the sake of the children? Have we lost the will to fight for love, for peace, for family?” she asked.
She lamented that values of endurance and reconciliation were “fading away,” adding that families “deserve more than a quick escape.”
In a lighter remark, she likened the pursuit of a second wife to consumer enthusiasm for the latest gadgets: “Is ‘second wife’ now the new iPhone that every man wants to upgrade to?”
Reactions have continued to trail her post, while many believed religion is a contributing factor to the issue, some also believe the divorce rate is something that also needs to be addressed.
