For the first time, ChoreoCinema World is launching what its organisers describe as the country’s first dedicated dance film festival, opening a new platform for artists working at the intersection of movement, choreography and film.

Filmmaker and cultural advocate Femi Adebajo said ChoreoCinema World is developed as more than a festival, with plans for screenings, commissions, collaborations and conversations around dance and experimental film.

Adebayo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer and Convener, ChoreoCinema noted, “Dance has always had a relationship with space, the body, rhythm and movement. Film gives us another dimension to explore those things. We want artists to ask what happens when choreography, camera, sound, editing and the body become part of one artistic language.”

To him, “we are not interested in creating a festival that exists for three days and disappears. There are artists whose ideas do not fit neatly into traditional categories of dance, theatre or film. We want ChoreoCinema World to be a place where those ideas can find expression and where artists have the freedom to imagine differently.” He stated.

On his part, the festival’s director, Faith Okoh noted, “we want to create a space where the moving body can be recognized not simply as a spectacle or support for another narrative, but as the starting point for an authored work of an art on screen.”

Beyond the inaugural festival, ChoreoCinema World plans to develop programmes that create opportunities for artists working across dance, choreography and experimental film.

Adebajo is working with Festival Director, Faith Okoh; Curator, Temi Ami Williams; Festival Coordinator and Communications Lead, Oluwaseun Usman; and founding team member, Temitope Ogunjimi, alongside a Board of Directors.

The ChoreoCinema World Dance Film Festival will hold from October 23 to 25, 2026, at White Space Creative Art Foundation, Ikoyi, Lagos.
