American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr, popularly known as iShowSpeed, drew fresh attention online after a video from his visit to Ghana circulated on social media, prompting a reaction from Nigerian singer, Davido.

The clip, which emerged during his time in Ghana, showed Speed receiving an intense massage from a group of women, and the video drew attention from Nigerians.

Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido added to the buzz after reposting the clip on his Instagram page, tagging his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke, with a joking caption that read, “@thechefchi oh boy my darling wife pls permit me this nah Ghana???”.

Speed’s Ghana stop came shortly after days of intense attention during his visit to Nigeria, where the 21-year-old arrived in Lagos as part of his ambitious tour across 20 African countries in 28 days.

Several clips from the Lagos visit trended online, showing Speed interacting with fans, joking with passers-by during his streams and taking in public performances.

The Nigeria visit also featured brief interactions with Nigerian entertainers. Afrobeats singer Zlatan surprised Speed with a birthday cake at the ZTTW store, while Davido appeared on one of his livestreams via FaceTime from Paris.

Not all moments from the Lagos stop were met with enthusiasm. Clips involving TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, drew attention online after videos showed him repeatedly attempting to meet Speed, including chasing his convoy and pleading for collaboration.

Speed later addressed the backlash, explaining that his African tour was not designed around collaborations with influencers. According to remarks attributed to him by The Times of India, he said the aim of the tour was to highlight African culture, everyday street life and local talent rather than organised meet-ups. He added that his schedule across countries was tightly planned.

After leaving Nigeria, Speed continued his tour to Ghana, where new clips from his visit again placed him at the centre of online discussion. The massage video, amplified by Davido’s repost, became one of the most talked-about moments from the Ghana stop.

Davido’s reaction also drew attention partly because of his public marriage to Chioma Rowland Adeleke.
