Film distributor Nile Entertainment has said its titles accounted for 68 per cent of Nigeria’s weekend box office earnings, with Agbara Nla, Street Fighter and Other Mummy occupying the top three positions.
The company disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the three films jointly contributed 58.9 per cent of the weekend’s cinema takings.
According to its breakdown, Agbara Nla ranked first with ₦47.5 million, followed by Street Fighter with ₦36.7 million and Other Mummy with ₦8.9 million.
Nile said earnings from other films on its distribution slate brought its overall share of the weekend gross to 68 per cent.
The company said Agbara Nla, released on October 1, had earned ₦354.5 million at the Nigerian box office.
The film is a remake of Mount Zion’s 33-year-old Christian production, co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films and Circuits.
Nile also reported a combined opening weekend gross of $120,660 across selected cinemas in the United Kingdom and Canada.
The distributor attributed the film’s performance to a campaign that targeted viewers familiar with the original production alongside younger audiences.
It said the campaign included engagement with the Mount Zion community, endorsements from church leaders and online promotions.
According to the company, advance ticket sales exceeded ₦71 million in a single day.
Street Fighter and Other Mummy, which opened in cinemas on October 16, received separate campaigns tailored to their audiences, the statement added.
The General Manager of Nile Entertainment, Nowe Segun-Ojo, said the results reflected the company’s approach to promoting individual releases.
“Since commencing operations in August 2024, we have focused on building a distribution business that understands the films it represents and the audiences they serve. The performance of Agbara Nla, Street Fighter and Other Mummy reflects the different audience engagement strategies behind each release. Having three of our titles occupy the top three positions is an encouraging milestone for a relatively young company, and we remain focused on building on this progress with our production and studio partners,” Segun-Ojo said.
Nile Entertainment, the film distribution arm of Nile Media Entertainment Group, distributes Nigerian and international films across Anglophone West Africa.
