The family of late gospel singer, Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has appealed for donations to support his widow and children.
The appeal was posted on the singer’s official Instagram page on Wednesday, October 21, a week after his death, alongside a poster containing bank details for contributions.
Captioned “A CALL FOR LOVE & SUPPORT”, the post urged well-wishers to support his wife as the family mourns.
“As we mourn the loss of our beloved brother, let us stand with his wife during this difficult season. Every contribution, no matter how small, is a gesture of love and compassion.”
The post directed those wishing to contribute to the account details on the accompanying poster.
“Please support her through the account details provided. May God bless every giving heart and grant the family strength and comfort.”
The poster, which featured the singer’s photograph and the words “Toluwani Lives On”, stated that the donations would support his wife and children.
It listed a Sterling Bank account, 0150641156, bearing the name Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola. The announcement did not specify a fundraising target or deadline for contributions.
The family had earlier confirmed Toluwanisings’ death in a statement announcing that he died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14.
In that announcement, the family asked the public to remember his wife, relatives and loved ones in prayer, adding that funeral arrangements would be announced later.
His personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, subsequently said efforts to secure medical attention took them to between seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan after the singer slumped.
Gbolabo said he was not present when the singer collapsed but rushed to the scene after receiving a telephone call. According to his account, some hospitals cited a doctors’ strike, while others did not admit the singer. The family has not disclosed the cause of death.
Months before his death, Toluwanisings and members of his crew survived a road accident while returning from a gospel ministration in July.
The singer shared photographs of their damaged vehicle on Instagram and said a fully loaded trailer had nearly crushed it. No information has been provided linking the accident to his death.
His gospel recordings included Onibuore, Elagbara and Owo Re Meji Meji. Other songs associated with him include Unreserved Praise and A Very Big God.
The family has also announced a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs to honour his life and ministry.
“With heavy hearts, yet in gratitude to God for a life that touched many, we invite you to join us for a Night of Tributes in honour of our beloved brother, friend, and gospel minister, Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, fondly known as Toluwanisings,” the family wrote.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, at 3pm at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan. Attendees have been asked to wear white.
