Rele Arts Foundation is set to hold the third edition of the Young Contemporaries Initiative on Sunday, the 14th of January. This year’s event will feature Nigerian visual artists who are using their skills and techniques to drive art in the global marketplace. The selective themes for this year’s works include sexuality, cultural and self-identity, socio-political commentary, and the bipolarity of human nature.

The five visual artists to watch out for at the #YoungContemporaries2018 exhibition include 29 year-old mixed media artist, Yasser, who takes as his inspiration, his wrestle with his multi-cultural heritage; 25-year-old hyper-realistic artist, Samuel‘s, works of charcoal and pastel highlights the chaos and imbalance in the Nigerian society; 24-year-old Dandelion is a photographer that offers a fresh perspective on the perceived notions and misconceptions of sexuality in Nigeria. Habeeb is a 29-year-old mixed media artist whose large-scale abstract painting provide commentaries informed by his observation of our socio-political environment while the 22-year-old painter, Abisola, uses watercolour to showcase a personal documentation of the bipolar extremes of human nature in relation to living.
The exhibition will kick off by 4 pm on Sunday at the Rele Gallery, located at number 5, Military Street, Onikan, Lagos, and will run till the 25th of February.
