It took only 30 seconds for Nigerians to fall in love with oga Duke, but that’s all they needed. We can’t deny the cuteness and laugher Oga Duke brings to our social media feed, but how did it start?
11 months ago the internet started talking about a young man and his talking dog Duke. The comedy skits and fashion videos was just what we needed, ever since then Oga Duke has grown to be a household name in Africa, as millions of pet lovers in Africa love the unique duo. With over 300,000 followers on Instagram alone Oga Duke is the most famous pet influencer in Africa and is a force to recon with.
Oga Duke formally known as Oreoluwa Osoba, is from Ogun state Nigeria, comes from a loving family and often speaks of the major role his mom and his sisters played in his life, “I was raised by 3 amazing women, my mom is my super woman, my eldest sister Dami is my fighter and my immediate elder sister Busayo is my lawyer, they raised me in the way of the Lord to be loving and caring and I think in the way I care for animals.”
Oga Duke is a first class graduate of computer science but the youngest recipient of the Nigerian Entrepreneur Award and now being Africas most famous pet influencer, what does this mean to Oga Duke?
“It’s exciting, I love what I do and I’m also happy to bringing awareness to an issue people ignore in Africa which is animal rights. These little guys don’t have a voice in Africa and it’s sad, to be able to influence people to look at animals differently is a major blessing I don’t take for granted, I never imagined my life would change so much in just 11 months.”
We can’t help but ask who the voice behind Duke’s character is, the funny and cute voice that Nigerians love to hear especially when he says “paale”.
“I get asked this question a lot and a lot of people don’t believe when I tell them the answer…. It’s me, I am the voice behind Duke’s character, it’s a voice I always use to tease my sisters and it just fits perfectly into Duke’s character.
Being a content creator is a lot of work; shooting videos and editing, coming up with the scripts, etc. Who does all these for you or do you have a team?
“It’s funny cause I shoot and edit all my contents myself, it’s fun for me. Occasionally my sister helps out with shooting, but mostly I do everything myself and I love it, seeing everything come to life from thought, the process to the final video is just amazing to me“
One thing you would notice about Oga Duke’s page is that ladies love him, often seeing questions like “Are you single? Are you married?” in the comment session so we have to ask Are you single? And how has fame affected your dating life?
“I am happily single, honestly since the fame came its been harder to date but I’m getting a hang of it. Right now I’m focusing on myself and my craft, everything will happen at the right time”.
One of the things you notice from Oga Duke’s instagram page is his love for GOD and his religion; from Bible verses postings on his stories to his early morning prayer contents with Duke.
“Without GOD I am nothing, I owe it all to GOD, I am a proud Christian and solider of GOD, it’s a privilege to use my platform to share how amazing GOD is”
From Lagos Nigeria to Africa, Oga Duke’s contents keeps going viral but Oga Duke has stated in previous interviews that beyond the funny skits and fashion content, he is passionate about animal rights and often speaks about it.
“You can tell the nature of a person by how they treat the animals around them.”
Oga Duke who is getting used to being a household name speaks on how being famous has turned his life; in his words
“I’m still getting used to going out and people knowing my name, it’s an amazing feeling that I don’t take for granted.”
