Nwoko, Oduah, others celebrate Igbo culture at ‘Nma Oha’ play

Notable Igbo sons and daughters, including lovers of traditional folktales, gathered in large numbers to celebrate the cultural heritage of the Igbo at the stage play of the movie “Nma Oha”, which means “the beauty of the people.”

The movie, featuring A-list actors, presents a captivating story with a powerful exploration of unity and the preservation of Ndigbo’s heritage. It also stressed the need for peaceful co-existence among the country’s ethnic groups.

Among the dignitaries at the event, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye.

The Minister, who surprised many with a brief performance in the movie, praised the production for its engaging and educational storyline.

“I’m happy to be part of this great artistic work to mark the Independence of our country and to show the world how united we are as a people.

“I commend the creativity embedded in this artwork and encourage movie producers to focus more on productions that reflect who we truly are and enhance our reputation internationally,” she said.

Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Sen. Ned Nwoko, also joined other prominent Nigerian leaders in praising the movie’s rich storyline and the excellent portrayal of roles by the cast.

Also present at the colourful event were former Anambra North Senator Stella Oduah, FCTA Mandate Secretary Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, HRM Prof. Igwe Ochendo Ogidi-Igbo JP, and other distinguished individuals.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Stephanie Nnadi, a renowned entertainment promoter and CEO of One Percent revealed that the movie would be part of a series featuring the cultural heritage of other Nigerian ethnic groups, including the Yoruba and Hausa.

She said that the movie serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding Igbo cultural values.

Patrick Otoro, a veteran actor and producer of “Nma Oha,” echoed Nnadi’s sentiments, adding that future series will highlight Edo, Gbagyi, Urhobo, and other ethnic minority cultures as part of a broader celebration of Nigeria.

The production also attracted partners and sponsors, including Ethiopian Airlines, RuZu Products, Flame TV, Vortex, Haworth Oil & Gas, and others.

The event featured the conferment of awards on notable individuals and brands.

Francis Duru, Monalisa Chinda, Sydney Diala, Agility Onuoha, and several other top entertainers make up the talented cast.
