CITN pioneer president Olorunleke is dead

The first President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), David Olorunleke, is dead.

He died in the early hours of Friday, October 24, 2025.

According to a statement signed by the institute’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, Olorunleke held forth from 1985-1995 and was affectionately revered as the “Doyen of Taxation.”

The statement explained that he was the former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), former Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and former Board member of FIRS.

The CITN said that its pioneer president was an enduring champion of the tax profession in Nigeria.

While it requested prayers, reflections, tributes to celebrate his life and honour his achievements, the institute reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the profession he helped build.

Praying for the repose of his soul, the statement said that the condolence register is open at the institute’s offices in Lagos and Abuja, adding that his legacy will continue to inspire generations of tax professionals.
