Firm re-launches GDS platform for Nigerian travel agents

An aviation technology solutions provider, QuickAir, has restructured its management, while also launching the domestic Global Distribution System (GDS) specifically designed for Nigerian travel agents.

A statement by its spokesman, Tayo Adelaja, said the new leadership team would spearhead its ambitious expansion plans in the Nigerian aviation sector.

The statement hinted that Suleiman Ibrahim was elected the new Chairman of QuickAir Networks Ltd, bringing to bear over two decades of experience in technology infrastructure and aviation systems.

Also, he said Dr Segun Oyebolu assumed the dual role of Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, while Muyiwa Amoo joins as Executive Director, Finance and Administration.

Commenting on the relaunched GDS platform, Ibrahim said that it offers Nigerian travel agents real-time access to domestic flight inventory, competitive pricing and seamless booking capabilities across all major Nigerian airlines.

This innovative system addresses long-standing challenges in the local travel industry, including fragmented booking systems and limited access to comprehensive flight data, he added.

“Our restructuring represents a strategic pivot to better serve the Nigerian aviation market. With the relaunch of our domestic GDS, we are democratising access to flight inventory and empowering travel agents with world-class technology that was previously unavailable in this market,” he said.

On the temporary suspension of its operations in 2022, Ibrahim apologised to its customers and assured them that their wallet balances would be fully restored.

“This is not just a promise, but a commitment we are backing with immediate action. Customer trust is paramount to us, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure a seamless transition for our valued partners,” he assured.

Oyebolu, in his speech, emphasised the platform’s potential impact.
He noted that QuickAir’s GDS would revolutionise how travel agents operate in Nigeria by providing a unified platform that aggregates domestic flight options.

He maintained that the company, through its GDS, was reducing booking time by up to 70 per cent and significantly improving the customer experience.

The new GDS platform features include real-time seat availability, instant confirmation, multi-airline fare and schedule comparison, and integrated payment solutions supporting multiple Nigerian payment methods.

The system is designed to handle over 10,000 concurrent users and process transactions within seconds. Amoo stressed that the company’s investment in the technology infrastructure demonstrated the company’s commitment to the Nigerian market.

“We project that our platform will facilitate over N50 billion in domestic flight bookings within the first year of operation,” he said.
QuickAir’s restructuring comes at a crucial time when the aviation industry is experiencing significant growth, with domestic passenger traffic increasing by 15 per cent yearly. The company plans to onboard over 5,000 travel agents nationwide in the next six months.
