Falcon secures 25-year gas distribution licence

The Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA) has granted Falcon Corporation Limited a 25-year gas distribution licence (GDL). A statement by the Managing Director of the firm, Prof. Joe Ezigbo, said the licence confers exclusivity right to Falcon Corporation to distribute gas within the Ikorodu Industrial Zone. Ezigbo added that the GDL marks a significant regulatory approval that strengthens its role in the domestic gas market

“This milestone enables us to expand our gas distribution operations, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient supply of natural gas to industries, businesses, and residential consumers,’’ he said.

The GDL is in line with Section 148 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, which mandates the NMDPRA to issue the licence to qualified individuals and organisations. The move is part of the government’s efforts to implement the PIA and Gas Distribution Regulations of 2023.

It is also expected to open up opportunities across several key sectors, including energy-intensive industries, power generation, clean cooking initiatives, gas reticulation, compressed natural gas mobility, energy parks and special economic zones.

The Falcon boss maintained that natural gas plays a transformative role in fostering industrialisation, creating employment opportunities, and generating revenue for sustainable national development.

He said a thriving domestic gas market is crucial to achieving the government’s ambitions under the Decade of Gas Initiative Falcon GDL is expected to promote accessibility and availability of gas, encourage infrastructure development, crash the cost of production, aid the influx of industries to the Ikorodu industrial zone and enhance energy security for all Nigerians.
