Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and Aero Contractors have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in industry-led safety training, knowledge exchange and human capital development.

This is to reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to upholding global aviation safety standards. Speaking at the signing ceremony in Lagos, Managing Director of Aero Contractors, Ado Sanusi, said the MoU marked a significant milestone in the collective commitment to aviation safety and human capital development in Nigeria.
Sanusi said Aero Contractors has a proud legacy of over 60 years in the aviation industry and at the heart of its operations is a deep-rooted safety culture.

“We have always believed that safety is not just a regulatory requirement—it is a fundamental responsibility that we all share. As we often say, safety is everybody’s business.”

He said this partnership with NSIB underscores that belief. By providing on-the-job training opportunities for NSIB’s Transportation Safety Officers and other personnel, the company is reinforcing a culture of continuous learning and professional development. He noted that aviation safety is built on expertise, experience and collaboration, and through this MOU.

“We are taking a bold step to enhance the skills and technical knowledge of those responsible for ensuring safety across the sector,” he said.
Sanusi said NSIB would undoubtedly benefit from its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, gaining practical, hands-on experience that will strengthen its investigative and technical expertise.

In turn, Aero Contractors is honoured to contribute to the improvement of aviation safety standards in Nigeria.

He noted that the initiative is not just about training but also about fostering a safety-driven ecosystem where industry players work together to prevent accidents and improve operational standards. It is about investing in the future of aviation in Nigeria.

He said: “Today, as we sign this MOU, we celebrate not just a partnership but a shared vision – one where safety remains the cornerstone of our industry. We look forward to the successful implementation of this agreement and the lasting impact it will have on aviation safety in Nigeria.”

Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said the partnership marked a critical step forward in its collective commitment to enhancing transportation safety across Nigeria, particularly in the aviation sector.

Badeh said the NSIB has the critical responsibility of investigating transportation occurrences be it in air, marine, rail or any other mode of transport and making recommendations to prevent future incidents and accidents.

“Our mission is clear, to safeguard life, improve safety standards and foster a culture of excellence in transport safety,” he said.

According to him, aero contractors with its rich experience and expertise in airlines providing passengers on charter or allied services bring a wealth of technical knowledge and insight into the partnership.

He said this collaboration is a testament to the power of synergy aligning the regulatory and investigative prowess of the NSIB with the practical hands-on of aero.

“We would train our members with this partnership on safety,” he said.
