The West Africa Container Terminal (WACT)–APM Terminals Nigeria and CMA CGM have commenced direct shipping services from Europe and Asia to Onne Port in Rivers State, aiming to strengthen import and export trade routes in the eastern market.

The new Europe Afrique 4 (EURAF4) service will provide weekly direct shipping to Onne Port, enabling importers and exporters to benefit from streamlined logistics, cost reductions and enhanced supply chain efficiency in the Eastern region.

The shipping service was inaugurated at Onne Port after the maiden arrival of the containership, MV-Leto, on February 11, 2025, with an overall length of 220.3 metres and a width of 32.26 metres.

The Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke, said the introduction of the EURAF4 is a response to the increasing demand for efficient and reliable shipping solutions in Eastern Nigeria.

He said the EURAF4 aims to enhance connectivity, improve transit times and provide comprehensive cargo-handling solutions for Nigeria’s trade with Europe and Asia.

Klinke said EURAF4 is designed to optimise routes and schedules to ensure timely arrivals, minimising delays and maximising customer satisfaction, which translates to faster delivery of goods to and from Nigeria and improved efficiency for business.

He praised the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and other stakeholders for their role in launching the service and successfully berthing MV-Leto.

He said the company is fully committed to servicing businesses at the highest level and to supporting growth in the East Nigerian market.

Klinke noted that this milestone not only strengthens international business confidence but also encourages shipping lines to inject additional capacity into the region.

“With these enhanced capabilities, we anticipate increased trade volumes, which will, in turn, drive further economic growth in Eastern Nigeria,” Klinke added.

The Managing Director of CMA CGM Nigeria, Hinelder Ferreira, also praised all stakeholders at the port for the successful berthing of MV-Leto.

He said that with the vessel’s arrival, the companies marked the first call for the EURAF4 service, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the Eastern port.
