‘ICT skills critical to unlocking opportunities, innovation’

Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, has said that Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills are critical to unlocking opportunities, create jobs as well as promote innovation as the world is an era where technological proficiency can open doors to opportunities, enhance employability and drive innovation in every sector.

Speaking at a press briefing to announce a free specialised ICT training for 200 youths in Lagos, Ajigbotafe, said that the four-month specialized Information Communication Technology (ICT) programme is tailored towards meeting international and industrial demands, stating that access to technology and the skills to navigate it are not just advantageous, but also essential.

Ajigbotafe noted that: “Unfortunately, many young graduates struggle to gain access to jobs not due to a lack of potential or ambition, but rather a gap in practical skills that align with the demands of today’s job market. This is where our initiative comes into play.”

He stated that the facilitators of the four-month specialised training are top notch experts, bringing real world experience and insights into the classroom and the state government is committing over N400m to train the 200 youths.

He also said the initiative, which is a collaborative effort between the ministry and a consulting firm, would engage 200 youths across the five divisions of the state in hands-on projects, workshops and networking opportunities to enhance their learning experience and prepare them for the job market.

The commissioner said residents ages 18 to 35 years with LASRRA card can key into the programme, stating that participants would be giving stipends as well as undergo four months internship after the training among other incentives.
