Port Authority Police partner customs on maritime security

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Toyin Agbaminoja, has strengthened the existing collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), aiming to foster closer inter-agency cooperation to enhance security, facilitate trade and promote effective operational harmony across the Western Ports.

As part of her familiarisation tour within the maritime sector, Agbaminoja visited the Customs Commands in Apapa, Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) and Tin Can Island, where she commended the NCS for its unwavering dedication to safeguarding the country’s economic interests.

She also assured the NCS of the continued support of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command in maintaining a safe and orderly port environment.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Isaac Hundeyin, Agbaminoja emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence sharing in combating smuggling, cargo theft and other maritime-related crimes.

She reaffirmed her readiness to work closely with all port stakeholders to ensure the ports remain secure, efficient and conducive for legitimate trade and business operations.

In their separate remarks, the Customs Area Controllers of the various commands commended the Commissioner of Police for her proactive and inclusive leadership style and pledged their continued collaboration with the Police in pursuit of shared security and operational goals.

The visits concluded with interactive sessions focused on addressing security challenges, improving coordination and exploring new strategies for joint operations within the maritime sector.
