Nigerian in Diaspora to obtain BVN by year-end — Cardoso
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, announced on Wednesday that Nigerians in the Diaspora will be able to obtain their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) by the end of the year.
Cardoso disclosed this during a meeting with the Nigerian community in Washington, DC, on the sidelines of The World Bank Group’s ongoing annual meetings.
He said that the BVN initiative is set to be driven by the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBBS).
Cardoso also revealed that the BVN would increase diaspora remittances and help Nigerians abroad participate more actively in the Nigerian economy.
“As far as we are concerned, it is totally unacceptable that you should be out here and be having hassles in operating your accounts or doing business in your original country,” Cardoso said.
