President of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has donated a 30-seater luxury bus to Intercontinental Schools in Kano. The donation was announced during the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day, held on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Addressing staff, students, and guests at the event, Prof. Gwarzo said the gesture was in recognition of the school’s academic excellence, describing Intercontinental Schools as one of the best-performing secondary institutions in Kano.
“Education is the future and the future is the education. When you give your children quality education, you are investing in their future,” he said.
Prof. Gwarzo advised the school’s founders to continue prioritising innovation in their teaching approach in order to promote critical thinking among students and equip them with the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He also encouraged the introduction of bilingual education in the school curriculum, stating that it would help produce globally competent students capable of thriving in any part of the world.
In addition to the vehicle donation, Prof. Gwarzo awarded cash prizes to the best graduating students across all levels. Pupils who emerged first in Nursery, Primary, and Secondary categories each received ₦1 million, while second and third-place students were awarded ₦500,000 each.
The founders of Intercontinental Schools, Engr. Yusuf Baba and Hajia Hadiza Nuhu Yusuf Baba, commended Prof. Gwarzo for his generosity and commitment to educational development. They described the donation as timely and impactful, noting that the bus would significantly enhance mobility and logistics for the school.
The school also honoured Prof. Gwarzo with an award of recognition for his unwavering support for education both in Nigeria and internationally.
Prof. Gwarzo was accompanied to the event by senior management of the MAAUN Group, including President of MAAUN Maradi, Prof. Mohammad Israr; Vice President, Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar; Vice President, MAAUN Niger, Dr. Shu’aibu Tanko; Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Ahmad Maigari Ibrahim; Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna; Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba; and Director of Linkages and Collaboration, Dr. Bala Mohammad Tukur.
