Oyo surveying school gets new governing council

Federal School of Surveying, Oyo

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has approved the appointment of a new Governing Council for the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, with Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin as the Chairman of the new council for the institution.

The inauguration ceremony of the newly constituted governing council members, held in Lagos, was the eighth of its kind in the history of the monotechnic.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, who presided over the inauguration ceremony, charged the new council members not only to improve the standards of the school but also to showcase to the world the successes recorded in over 115 years of Surveying Education in Nigeria with the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

He noted that the immediate past council, in its wisdom, has tremendously laid a solid foundation for the continued academic growth of the school by paving the way for the incorporation of three new academic departments and courses in the school, stressing that the development should serve as a challenge to the incoming council to upgrade the status of the school to be elevated even more.

While the minister assured the institution, headed by Dr. Olayinka-Dosumu—an Associate Professor—that the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, would continue to receive the necessary support from the government and that its success and growth would always be a priority, he expressed satisfaction with the moral support the institution had been enjoying from the Oyo community and its environs since inception, as he hoped that the mutual understanding between the school and the town would continue perpetually.

Meanwhile, the new Governing Council Chairman of the school, SURV. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, assured the minister that his team would serve loyally, work diligently, and act responsibly in the discharge of their duties in the interest of the institution.

He said that all members of the newly constituted Governing Council of the school considered it a rare privilege to be called upon to serve their dear fatherland in this capacity.

He said: “I solemnly state that we are fully aware and conscious of the fact that, through the activities of the Governing Council, innovative ideas that would enhance the growth and development of the school, its academic curricula, and administration are expected.

“The council shall embrace any good proposals emanating from the Academic Board and the Management of the Institution. We promise that the tremendous strides recently achieved in the fields of Surveying and Geoinformatics, Cartography & GIS, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Computer Science will be extended to other academic programmes in the near future.”
